Frequently Asked Questions

1. WHAT DOES THE SUN CUBED DO?

The primary function of the Sun Cubed is to produce potable, disinfected, drinking water from polluted or contaminated sources using a particulate prefilter, secondary ultraviolet sterilization and post-filtering.

2. WHAT IS POST-FILTERING?

Post-filtering uses a nano ceramic filtering process to remove pathogens not made dormant or not affected by ultra violet sterilization. This additional process can remove parthogens as small as viruses.

3. DOES IT REMOVE INORGANIC SOLVENTS AND OILS?

This function could be supplied as an additional equipment option.

4. HOW IS WATER PURITY GUARANTEED?

Sun Cubed incorporates failsafe systems to insure shut-down of process in the event of purification failure. It does this without the contamination of previously processed water.

5. HOW OFTEN DO WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE FILTERS?

It depends upon the volume of water being processed, the extent of its turbity, and the levels of pathogenic materials in the water being processed.

6. HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO CHANGE THE FILTERS?

Filter replacement is an easy process requiring no tools and only a few minutes of time.

7. ARE EXTRA FILTERS SUPPLIED WITH THE SUN CUBED?

Filters are considered to be consumable items and can be ordered from Indigenous Energy on an as-needed basis. Filter design is not proprietary to Sun Cubed, so filters can be ordered through multiple vendors. All filter specifications will accompany the Sun Cubed for re-ordering process.

8. HOW MUCH WATER CAN IT PUMP?

Pumping capacity is a function of variables such as solar power availability, depth to water, and extent of contamination of the water. Normal capacity under favorable conditions ranges from 1,000 to 15,000 gallons a day.

9. CAN IT PUMP FROM A WELL?

Water sources may be ponds, ditches, wells, tanks or other accessible sources.

10. HOW FAR CAN SUN CUBED BE LOCATED FROM THE WATER SOURCE?

Water source can be up to 250 feet from the unit with greater distances if optional equipment is used.

11. WHAT IS THAT OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT?

Additional hose and wire extensions.

12. CAN THE SUN CUBED PUMP WATER INTO AN ABOVEGROUND STORAGE UNIT?

Processed water can be stored internally or delivered to aboveground holding tanks.

13. WHAT IS THE PRESSURE OF THE WATER BEING PUMPED?

Processed water is available as pressurized water up to 50 psi.

14. WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF POWER?

Primary power source is the integral solar array producing up to 3500 watts. This source serves not only as primary water processing power, but also as additional standard AC (50 hz/60 hz) or DC (12v/24v/48v) power for emergency or onsite electrical power consumption, such as lighting, tools, communication, refrigeration, or other processes as needed.

15. IS ENERGY AVAILABLE BEYOND DAYLIGHT OPERATION?

Water processing power is available during daylight hours and power is held in reserve through the use of batteries for operation twenty-four hours a day. Optional generator connection would allow water processing operations around the clock or during extended inclement weather.

16. IS THERE MAINTENANCE ON THE BATTERIES?

Batteries are maintenance free. Unit is designed for extended battery life which ranges from five to seven years.

17. WHAT OTHER MAINTENANCE OR SERVICE IS NECESSARY ON THE SUN CUBED?

Maintenance on the Sun Cubed is primarily limited to filter replacement as needed and occasional cleaning of the unit and its modules as needed.

18. WHAT IS THE SERVICE-ABILITY OF THE SUN CUBED?

All water processes, filtration, power, power conditioning, data link, and other control and power components are rack-mounted for easy access and field replacement.
19. HOW RUGGED IS THE SUN CUBED?

The Sun Cubed is constructed from high-tensile strength material that is resistant to corrosion and to repetitive relocating.

20. HOW IS THE SUN CUBED TRANSPORTED?

Sun Cubed can easily be transported using ground-based built-in towing option or by air lift, or rail. The Sun Cubed can also be easily be transported and mounted on a raft or boat.

21. HOW HEAVY IS THE SUN CUBED?

Approximately 1133 kilograms (2,500 pounds).

22. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SET UP THE SUN CUBED?

Sun Cubed can be deployed and operated with minimal effort in under thirty minutes. Sun Cubed requires minimal attendance in operation and nominal training to operate.

23. WHAT ARE THE PROCEDURES FOR SETTING UP SUN CUBED IN THE FIELD?

Sun Cubed is designed for easy deployment. No reading of text is necessary because full, graphically-illustrated instructions for deployment are furnished. Procedure is as follows: Once clamshell protective enclosure is removed, Sun Cubed’s solar array is easily deployed through handcrank mechanism or use of available optional electric drive. Correct solar orientation is achieved through the use of a simple compass and shadow device permanently affixed to the array. Upon proper orientation and deployment, simple push-button operation initializes power system. Once power system is initialized, all functions of the Sun Cubed become available. Water processing begins with simple deployment of external pump and hoses and their placement in the water source. Processing begins with simple start of the external pump.

24. ARE THERE ADDITIONAL OPTIONS FOR THE SUN CUBED?

Options include, but are not limited to, low-energy lighting stanchions, satellite communication and broadband data acquisition with optional VoIP (voice-over internet) and WiFi. If the satellite option is used, remote systems monitoring software is available.

25. WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON THE SUN CUBED?

The solar modules are guaranteed by the manufacturer up to twenty-five years. Remaining equipment carries a defect warranty of five years.
