Welcome to Indigenous Power
Across much of the developing world, more than 4,900 people die each day from waterborne illness; 90% are children under the age of five. Over 1.1 billion people worldwide (20% of the world population) must walk more than one kilometre to find water that is often unsafe to drink. An estimated 6 million died in 2003, according to the World Health Organization.
In addition to death and illness, a loss of hope and opportunity are direct consequences of water-borne and related diseases. Access to adequate, clean, affordable supplies of water is fundamental to human health. Yet a billion people or more go without safe drinking water.
